An Unexpected Grievance

"There has been a rumor floating around that we have a spy in our ranks. I need you to dig that spy out..."


Continuing his given mission, Maverick has scoured the grounds, following suspects, staking out dens.
He went on relentlessly, not wanting their home to be at risk any longer than needed. 
Finally, one night, a specific suspect caught his attention. Following silently, he discovered their leave was to consult with the enemy. Coming out of the shadows, he chased the spy, cornering him in an alleyway...


Panting and snarling, the enforcer slowly backed the canine into the alley. Anger boiled in his chest; this was the dog. The one who'd been spilling secrets. But not any longer. The spy held a torch, illuminating the two dogs in the darkness. As Maverick stepped forward, the flames flicked, lighting up the enemy's face. He froze at what he saw. The dark fur, the curve of his frame. It couldn't be... "Maverick?" the dog called, voice cutting the silence. Rising his head, he let out a low growl. It was. After all these years it was him. His father. "Maverick, it-it's been so long.. too long." the shepherd said quietly, while ever-so-slightly backing away from the malicious glare. Without a word, the enforcer continued his stride, teeth bared, eyes intent on the dog before him. "You-you don't have to do this, come with me! We can be free together!" his father whimpered. That was the last straw. With a snarl of rage, Maverick surged forward, knocking the torch from his father's grasp."I am free." he spat, shoving his paw into the shepherd's throat. "And this is Paradise."
